Ohio ranks in the top 10 states for human trafficking. Human trafficking is the illegal use of vulnerable people to make a profit through sex work or labor. In 2020 Ohio law enforcement reported over 200 active human trafficking investigations in the state.
Two of the greatest risk factors that have been shown to make individuals more vulnerable are substance use and mental health concerns. Thrive Human Trafficking Peer Support offers supportive recovery services especially devised for survivors of human trafficking.
To aid in healing and rehabilitation, Thrive Human Trafficking Peer Support connects survivors of human trafficking to certified peer supporters with shared lived experience in human trafficking, substance use disorder and/or mental health.
Survivors of human trafficking have high needs as it relates to social determinants of health and recovery. Their experience adds many layers of complexity to the journey of achieving long-term recovery. Utilizing trauma-informed care approaches, our peer supporters will act as an advocate for survivors while providing hope, empowerment, education, and connection through a collaborative engagement process with community partners. Additionally, Thrive’s Peer Recovery Supporters can link individuals to immediate treatment options and other assistance as requested by the survivor.
